The Air Jordan 16 was released on Michael Jordan’s 38th birthday – February 17, 2001. This was the very first sneaker since the Nike Air Jordan 2 not to be designed by the genius Tinker Hatfield on the other hand, the Air Jordan XVI’s have been designed by Nike’s Senior Footwear Designer Wilson Smith.

He made a decision to carry back a couple of elements from the past Jordan models as part of the Jordan 16′s layout which includes the patent leather around the toe box from the Air Jordan XI, ribbed leather gaiter from the Air Jordan XIV, 3/4 mid cut from the Air Jordan III, mesh uppers from the Air Jordan V and clear rubberized soles from Jordans V, VI, X). What made the AJ16s distinctive was the brand new gaiter/shroud that blanketed the footwear and could possibly be taken out to provide the kicks a fresh new look. Not only was this for fashion reasons, additionally, it was built with a thermal functionality.
